Short version: FlyNat does not sell your data. Location sharing is opt-in and can be stopped at any time. Flight logs are stored locally on your device. Social features (Flight Nation, Chat) require Google Sign-In and store content in Firebase. Push notifications require storing an FCM device token in Firebase.
1. Who We Are
FlyNat is developed and maintained by Pavel Rosental ("we", "us", "our"). FlyNat provides two products: the FlyNat mobile app (Android) and the FlyNat LogBook Desktop (Windows). Our website is accessible at https://flynat.net.

2. Information We Collect
FlyNat Mobile App
- Google Account (Sign-In) — when you sign in with Google, we receive your display name, profile photo URL, and Google account UID. We do not receive or store your email address or password. This information is used to identify you in Flight Nation and Chat.
- GPS / Location data — collected only when you explicitly activate "Share My Location" in the app. Used solely to display your position on the Live Map to other FlyNat users. Location sharing stops immediately when you disable the toggle.
- Flight Nation posts — text, images, and videos you publish to Flight Nation are stored in Firebase Realtime Database. Media files (images and videos) are uploaded to your personal Google Drive and linked by file ID. Posts are visible to all authenticated FlyNat users.
- Chat messages — direct messages between pilots are stored in Firebase Realtime Database. Messages are visible only to the two participants in the conversation.
- FCM device token — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token is stored in Firebase under your user profile to enable push notifications (chat messages, new feed posts, likes, airspace alerts). You can disable specific notification types in the app's notification settings.
- Notification preferences — your notification settings (on/off per type) are stored in Firebase under your user profile.
- Drone telemetry (optional) — if you use DJI Pilot 2 with our MQTT integration, real-time OSD data (altitude, speed, heading) is transmitted to the live map. This is an optional feature requiring manual configuration.
- Google Drive (optional) — if you connect Google Drive, we access your Drive to sync your logbook (
FlyNat_Logbook.json) and to store media you upload to Flight Nation. We do not access files unrelated to FlyNat.
FlyNat LogBook Desktop
- Flight logs — all flight data is stored locally in a SQLite database on your machine. We have no access to this data.
- Pilot information — name, certificate number, and other details you enter in Settings are stored only on your device.
- Google Drive sync (optional) — if you enable Drive sync, a snapshot of your logbook is uploaded to your personal Google account. We use OAuth 2.0 and do not store your Google credentials.
- Update checks — the app periodically fetches
https://flynat.net/version.jsonto check for updates. This request contains only your current app version.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Identify you by name and photo in Flight Nation posts and Chat
- Display your real-time position on the Live Map when you choose to share it
- Show drone telemetry data on the Live Map when OSD integration is active
- Enable logbook sync between Desktop and Mobile via Google Drive
- Store and display Flight Nation posts and Chat messages to the relevant users
- Deliver push notifications for chat messages, new feed posts, post likes, and airspace alerts
- Deliver app update notifications
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the features described above.
4. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We use the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase Authentication — handles Google Sign-In. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Firebase Realtime Database — stores live location, telemetry, Flight Nation posts, and Chat messages. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) — delivers push notifications to your device using your FCM token. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Drive API — logbook sync and Flight Nation media storage. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- EMQX MQTT Broker — optional DJI telemetry relay. Only active if you configure DJI Pilot 2 integration.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
- Live location — your GPS coordinates in Firebase are overwritten continuously while sharing is active and are removed when you stop sharing. We do not archive historical locations.
- Telemetry data — drone OSD values in Firebase are updated in real time and not retained after the session ends.
- Flight Nation posts — posts remain in Firebase until you delete them from the app. Deleting a post also removes the associated media file from your Google Drive.
- Chat messages — messages remain in Firebase until you delete the conversation in the app.
- FCM token — your device token is stored in Firebase as long as your account is active and is updated automatically when it rotates.
- Local data — flight logs on your device remain until you uninstall the app or delete them manually.
- Account deletion — to delete your account and all associated data (posts, messages, location history, FCM token), contact us at [email protected] or use the Sign Out option in the app settings.
6. Children's Privacy
FlyNat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption for all data in transit, Firebase security rules limiting read/write access to authenticated users only, and OAuth 2.0 for Google account authorization. No system is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent for location sharing at any time (in-app toggle)
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of FlyNat after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
